Title: ARES Spanish Advocate
Location: Lawrence, MA
Hours: 21 hours a week, contracted, hybrid
Description: Provides direct services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults and seniors who use spokenSpanish or sign language (including ASL, home signs, Spanish signs, visual gestures) to communicate.Services include providing support to consumers with achieving self-determined goals, building skills andknowledge for success, and increasing awareness, information and access in the community. Serves theNortheast region.

Key Duties:
- Manage a reasonable caseload of adults who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing who use spoken Spanish orSpanish sign language to communicate
- Provide direct services: intake, peer counseling, advocacy, skills training, information and referral
- Conduct intake assessments and develop written service plans that delineate advocacy and skills training goals, coordinate implementation, and periodically review the plan
- Provide outreach and education to consumers and the community
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in the area of deafness
- human services, or a related field, or 2 years of related work experience with Deaf or Hard of Hearing adults
- Able to use conversational Spanish and ASL, and strong ability to use written English
- Willingness to learn and use additional communication modes (i.e., Spanish signs, visual gestures) to meet the needs of the population served
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Must have reliable and accessible private transportation
- Able to demonstrate diplomacy, sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism
- Able to motivate others towards achieving their goals
- Awareness of Spanish culture and norms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sensitivity to and awareness of issues affecting Spanish Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals and seniors
- Working knowledge of assistive technology for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened adults
- Experiential community involvement
